Family portrait - 5 years of records

We are mostly wedding photographers but that simply means that we photograph a family on a unique and very special day. What about all the other days? Well, we cannot photograph them all but we can photograph a ?not special? day and find the same love there, the same complicity and laughter in these family portraits as in any other day, special or not.
One of the best things wedding photography has given us is the possibility of meeting lots of people and build a friendship with many of them. It is true and not a mere romanticization of the profession. In weddings, emotions are generally running high and people reveal themselves more easily and are unusually transparent that day. They share with us more than they imagine and this transfer forges momentary bonds between us that often perpetuate in time. And this fact gave us even more than we expected, it gave us the privilege of being able to continue to accompany many of these families, to photograph them at different times in their lives and thus continue to contribute to its family legacy of memories in images.
Today we have collected some of our favorite family photographs that we have taken over the last 5 years and, when looking at this selection, we realized that with more or less guidance, being a more or less posed picture, the emotions they transmit are genuine, there is no way to manufacture none of this. All of this is real, our role was simply to compose and to shoot. In addition, we were able to delight our selves in finding images of families of all shapes and sizes, but even better, in finding the same family several times but spaced out in years. For example, Susana, Ricardo and little Isabel and two years later an older Isabel and her sister Luísa in her mother’s belly (and finally the 4, on the very last image in this post); Matteo and his parents whose wedding we photographed in 2016 (as well as two other weddings from this giant family); Charlotte, the funniest and most cheerful girl who grew up so much in just 2 years; Joana and her 4-legged friend Lisboa; little Sara and her parents, Susana and João, whose relationship started when we were all attending college together; Flor and Miguel who joined their families and are now 7 in total! and so, so many friends and fellow photographers who gave us the real honor of photographing them during their pregnancies or simply as a family, etc, etc! Oh! And so many dogs! Just wonderful.
In this period when most of our weddings have been postponed, we have a strangely free summer ahead of us. We want to enjoy it but we want to work too, we miss going out and shoot so much! Somos maioritariamente fotógrafos de casamentos mas isso significa simplesmente que fotografamos famílias num dia único e muito especial. E os outros dias todos? Bom, não podemos fotografá-los a todos mas podemos fotografar um dia ?não especial? e encontrar aí o mesmo amor, as mesmas cumplicidades e gargalhadas de qualquer outro dia, especial ou não.
Uma das melhores coisas que a fotografia de casamentos nos deu foi a possibilidade de conhecer imensas pessoas e construir com muitas delas uma relação de amizade. É verdade e não uma mera romantização da profissão. Nos casamentos as pessoas com que nos cruzamos têm em geral as emoções à flor da pele, revelam-se mais facilmente e ganham uma transparência incomum naquele dia. Partilham connosco mais do que imaginam e essa transferência forja laços momentâneos mas que muitas vezes se perpetuam no tempo. E este facto deu-nos ainda mais do que esperávamos, deu-nos o privilégio de poder continuar a acompanhar muitas destas famílias, fotografá-las em momentos diferentes das suas vidas e assim continuar a contribuir para o seu legado de memórias em imagens.
Hoje reunimos algumas das nossas fotografias favoritas de família que fizemos ao longo dos últimos 5 anos e ao olhar para esta selecção percebemos que com mais ou menos orientação, seja a fotografia mais ou menos pousada, as emoções que transmitem são genuínas, não há como fabricar nada disto. Tudo isto é real, a nós só nos coube o papel de compor e clicar. E mais, pudemos deliciar-nos a encontrar imagens de famílias de todos os formatos e feitios mas, melhor ainda, encontrar essas mesmas famílias várias vezes mas espaçadas no tempo. Por exemplo, a Susana, o Ricardo e a pequena Isabel e dois anos mais tarde uma Isabel mais crescida e a irmã Luísa na barriga da mãe (e por fim os 4, mesmo na última imagem deste post); o Matteo e os pais cujo casamento fotografámos em 2016 (bem como mais dois outros casamentos desta família gigante); a Charlotte, a miúda mais divertida e bem disposta e que cresceu tanto em apenas 2 anos; a Joana e a sua amiga de 4 patas Lisboa; a pequena Sara e os pais, Susana e João cujo namoro testemunhámos em tempos de faculdade; a Flor e o Miguel que juntaram as suas famílias e agora são 7 ao todo e tantos amigos e colegas de profissão que nos deram a verdadeira honra de os fotografar durante a gravidez ou simplesmente em família. Ah! E tantos cães! Uma maravilha.
Neste período em que a maioria dos nossos casamentos foram adiados, temos à nossa frente um Verão estranhamente livre. Queremos aproveitar mas queremos trabalhar também, por isso, se chegaram até aqui e gostaram das imagens que criámos para estas famílias e querem algo assim para a vossa, contactem-nos!
